YAAAAATA!

"No pain, no gain" is the most common line you will hear when you are into extreme sports. Well not just in sports, but life also has its pain to endure and the victory that you will gain. Okay, lets not start about life.

Skimboarding (or skimming) (or Skiffle Boarding) is a boardsport in which a skimboard (a smaller, sleeker version of a surfboard) is used to ride on an incoming wave. Unlike surfing, skimboarding begins on the beach, with the skimboarder running and dropping their board onto the thin wash of previous waves. They use their momentum to 'skim' out to breaking waves, which they then catch back into shore in a manner similar to surfing. Another aspect of skimboarding is 'flatland' which involves performing tricks derived from skateboarding such as ollies and shuv-its on the wash of waves without catching shorebreaks. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skimboarding)

In Sabah, skimboarding is a new sport, where only a number of individuals can be considered as the OTAIs(old-timer). There is a club for skimboarders, known as Borneo Wave Rider or Persatuan Luncur Air Sabah under Rakan Muda. They were amongst the pioneers here, and also our tutors (Thanks for lending the boards). There is even Ocean Saliva Skimboards (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Kota-Kinabalu-Malaysia/Ocean-Saliva-Skimboards/128872525815?ref=ts), a brand that promotes the sport in Sabah, selling skimboarding merchandise, and even entertain and teach newcomers (You are all welcome to join).

As for me, I have just started this sport somewhere July last year. It was hard at first as I have no basic in skateboarding. So it took approximately 1 whole week for me to learn the basic movement, the timing, the stance(feet positioning and body gesture), and even the guts to jump on board. It was not that easy. Bruises, cuts, and scratches are synonym to skimboarding.

Therefore, do not expect that you will be excused from these, as beginners and professionals must endure the pain which brings the thrill to the sport. Today, I tested the newly-built ramp, and WOOOHOOO the adrenaline pump was different when you are on top of the ramp. the thought of miss-skill, then falling, and banging your head to the wood ramp, garhh sure slows you down a bit. But YAAAATA!!! my first try was a success. I manage to pass the ramp, newbishly but I DID IT!!! Seeing your friends try and fell, sure traumatize you a bit. But still the show(?) must go on.

I took a video of the ramp session, and it is yet to be edited. Will upload it later once it is done.
In the mean time, here is a video I took during one of our flatland session, the LOSER game. The game is simple, a person(take turn) will do a trick, and the others must do the same. Those who failed to do the trick will gain a letter each round, until he/she completes the word LOSER. This is done until 1 person is left and he/she is the winner.

Enjoy Beach!
